'Akiraka' was the Japanese undertaking by naval yard workers to remove the torpedo tubes and torpedoes from the heavy cruiser Haguro to make additional space available for the stowage of foodstuffs and munitions for the Japanese evacuation of forces from Burma. The ship was thereafter limited to carrying evacuated troops and supplies from Burma to the Netherlands East Indies and the islands and coastal enclaves of the Bay of Bengal (1 April 1945).
