Operation Arena

'Arena' was an Allied unrealised plan by Lieutenant General Lewis H. Brereton’s Allied 1st Airborne Army for an air assault by three corps (including Lieutenant General F. A. M. Browning’s British I Airborne Corps and Major General Matthew B. Ridgway’s US XVIII Airborne Corps) to the east of Paderborn in north-western Germany (spring 1945).

It was intended that landings would be made in the region bounded by Kassel, Fritzlau and Hofgeisar to facilitate a ground forces' breakthrough into the heart of Germany through the creation of an airhead of the type that had failed at Arnhem in 'Market' of September 1944.
