Operation Attacke

'Attacke' was a German minelaying operation in the Mediterranean off the northern tip of Corsica (22/23 December 1943).

The operarion was undertaken by the minelayer Niedersachsen (ex-Italian Acqui, ex-French Guyane) and the ex-Italian torpedo boats TA 23 and TA 24. Commissioned as a German minelayer on 20 December 1943 after seizure from the Italians in 'Achse' (ii), the 1,794-ton Niedersachsen was sunk by the British submarine Upstart near Toulon on 15 February 1944.
