'Backchat' was a British special forces reconnaissance by a two-man canoe crew of the Small Scale Raiding Force of the beach at Anse de St Martin on the coast of the Cotentin peninsula of German-occupied northern France (1 March 1943).
The undertaking was called off when the vessels delivering the party encountered a German naval patrol. The operation had initially been schemed for the spring of 1942 but had then been postponed for a number of operational reasons.
