Operation Balli Kombetar

national front (in Albanian)

'Balli Kombetar' was a German undertaking first to establish and then to expand an Albanian force able to assume security duties on the route linking Tirana with Bitola, via Elbasan and Struga, in Albania (September 1943).

The object of the undertaking in its full form was to free German forces from occupation tasks and thus make them available for combat duties, and between September 1943 and May 1944 some 12,000 Albanians were recruited.
