'Bambino' was the US continuation of its supposed threat to the Kurile islands group, off the northern coast of the Japanese home islands, from bases in the Aleutian islands group as the final stage of the 'Wedlock' series of deceptions (November 1944/1945).
Designed to persuade the Japanese to maintain significant garrisons in this area, to the detriment of the strength of their forces farther to the south in the home islands, 'Bambino' was based on the use of radio deceptions to suggest that the USA had concentrated three divisions on the islands of Adak, Amchitka and Attu in readiness for an amphibious assault on the Kurile islands group.
