Operation BC (iii)

'BC' (iii) was the designation of a US convoy (together with a numerical suffix) plying the route from Charleston, South Carolina, to Bora Bora, French Society islands group (27 January/17 February 1942).

Planned and executed for the rapid reinforcement of the US forces in the Pacific theatre with men and equipment after the Japanese 'Ai' attack on Pearl Harbor had triggered the Pacific War of World War II, this one-off convoy comprised three US merchant vessels in the form of the 12,527-ton Hamul, 6,125-ton Irenee du Pont and 10,533-ton President Tyler, and three US commissioned transports in the form of the 6,198-ton Alchiba, 10,812-ton Arthur Middleton and 7,194-ton Mercury.
