'Befreiungsfeier' was the German withdrawal of Generalleutnant August Krakau’s 7th Gebirgsdivision from the combat zone round Ylimaa in the Taipale defensive zone about 18.5 miles (30 km) to the south of Rovaniemi on the central part of the Finnish front (9/12 October 1944).
This operation was undertaken within the context of the German forces' 'Birke' enforced withdrawal from Finland after the end of the 'Jatkosota' continuation war.
