Operation Birdcage

'Birdcage' was an Allied aerial programme of leaflet drops onto prisoner of war camps in South-East Asia (26 August 1945).

The object of the undertaking was to inform the Allied inmates of these camps about the Japanese surrender and thus the end of the war, and to instruct the erstwhile prisoners on the procedures they should adopt until Allied land forces arrived to liberate the camps and take into custody the camps' Japanese guard forces.
