Operation Blitztransport

'Blitztransport' was a German programme of special train services throughout the war for the movement of personnel and equipment directly to their destinations even if this meant delays and disruptions to other services (September 1939/May 1945).

If a change of locomotive was required, the fresh unit had to be ready, with steam raised, so that the change of traction unit could be effected with the least possible delay.
