Operation BS (ii)

'BS' (ii) was the designation of Allied convoys (together with a numerical and sometimes a literal suffix) plying the route from the Suez Canal toward Aden, often for dispersal (July 1940/April 1941).

The first of the series was BS.1 of 7/15 July 1940 with 18 merchant ships escorted by the British light cruiser Leander, British light anti-aircraft cruiser Carlisle, British destroyers Kandahar and Kingston, British sloops Flamingo, Grimsby and Shoreham, and Indian sloop Clive. The last convoy of the series was BS.24 of 7/14 April 1941 with 24 merchant vessels escorted by the British sloop Shoreham and Indian sloops Clive and Hindustan.
