Operation Cannae (iv)

(village in the Apulia region of south-eastern Italy)

'Cannae' (iv) was the German element of the occupation of Hungary launched from the regions of Syrmia, Slavonia and Podravina in German-occupied Yugoslavia (19 March 1944).

The operation used SS-Gruppenführer und Generalleutnant der Waffen-SS Bruno Streckenbach’s 8th SS Kavalleriedivision 'Florian Geyer' located in Osijek, part of Generalleutnant Walter Stettner Ritter von Grabenhofen’s 1st Gebirgsdivision, Generalmajor Hans Kreppel’s 100th Jägerdivision and most of Generalleutnant Josef Brauner von Haydringen’s 42nd Jägerdivision.
