'Cataract' was the US overall designation of the series of amphibious and carrierborne air operations to take the Marshall islands group in the central Pacific (February 1944).
Included within the overall compass of 'Cataract' were 'Catchpole' and 'Flintlock' directed at Eniwetok and Kwajalein atolls, and also 'Hailstone' against Truk atoll in the Caroline islands group from which a Japanese riposte could have been mounted.
