Operation Cator (i)

'Cator' (i) was a British unrealised plan for a special forces raid, in support of 'Compass' (i), to destroy part of the Italian main fuel pipeline in North Africa (December 1940).

The availability of fuel, and the ability to deliver this to front-line formations, was one of the primary problems faced by the Italians (and later also by the Germans) in the North African theatre and the British, well aware of this fact, made strenuous efforts to prevent the Axis fighting forces from receiving the fuel they needed.
