Operation Cheese II

'Cheese II' was a British operation by the Special Operations Executive to organise and train resistance groups in the area between Flekkefjord and Kristiansand in German-occupied Norway (2 January/March 1942).

A two-man Norwegian party (Odd Starheim and A. Fasting) was delivered by air, and while Fasting undertook the training commitment Starheim travelled to Oslo during January to meet members of the resistance organisation’s central council, including its head of communications, Rolf Palmstrøm, who asked for a radio operator and set. It was agreed that Einar Skinnerland should travel to the UK to organise this, which he did along with the two SOE men on the vessel Galtesund in March. Three radio sets were left for the use of a local organisation under Gunvald Thomstad.
