'Clinch' was a British unrealised plan for a landing between Mergui and Tavoy in the southern coastal 'appendix' region of Japanese-occupied Burma to allow the movement of troops into Thailand as an alternative to 'Bamboo', but conceived as being undertaken north of the Kra isthmus with a landing to open the way for the establishment of major Allied land forces in South-East Asia for an offensive to the south into Malaya or to the east through Thailand into Indo-China (March 1945).
