'Dachstein' was a German operation against the partisan forces of Marshal Josip Broz Tito in the Slovenian region of Crni Vrh above Idrija, Vodice, Visnje, Col, Zagolic and Krizna mountain area in German-occupied Yugoslavia with purpose of securing the mercury mine at Idrija (24/25 March 1944).
The operation was undertaken by Generalleutnant Wilhelm von Hösslin’s 188th Gebirgsdivision, which for this undertaking was divided into four Kampfgruppen (Kampfgruppe 'Heine' with 544 men of the 2nd and 5th Kompanien of the 139th Gebirgsjägerregiment, five pieces of artillery, 10 mortars and 37 machine guns, and Kampfgruppe 'Christl', Kampfgruppe 'Auer' and Kampfgruppe 'Beecheider' each with about 300 men), the SS 'Kras' Battalion, and the 3/15th SS Polizeiregiment.
