'Deer' was a US special forces operation to parachute a four-man Office of Strategic Services team into the Tan Trao area of Japanese-occupied northern Vietnam for reinforce the party already operating in this area to provide short-term assistance to the resistance forces led by the communist Ho Chi Minh (29 July 1945).
