'Derfflinger' was a German unrealised plan by the Oberkommando des Heeres for Generaloberst Walter Model’s 9th Army and Generaloberst Ernst Busch’s 16th Army of Generaloberst Georg von Küchler’s Heeresgruppe 'Nord' to take Ostashkov in a pincer movement (12 February 1942).
Had it been undertaken and been successful, the operation would have opened the southern side of the large Demyansk pocket being held by the Germans against heavy Soviet attack in the 'Demyansk Offensive Operation'.
