Operation DH

'DH' was a British naval sweep by elements of Admiral Sir Charles Forbes’s Home Fleet along the coast of German-occupied Norway (12/17 October 1940).

The force comprised the elderly fleet carrier Furious, the heavy cruisers Berwick and Norfolk, and the destroyers Mashona, Matabele, Punjabi and Somali. On 16 October Furious launched 11 Fairey Swordfish and three Blackburn Skua single-engined aircraft of Nos 816 and 801 Squadrons, and these attacked oil tanks, the seaplane base and shipping at Tromsų. One of the Skua aircraft force landed in Sweden. Only the 1,940-ton Finnish merchant vessel Ester Thorden was in the harbour during the attack, and was not damaged.
