'E' (iii) was the designation of Allied tanker convoys plying to the south from Trinidad for dispersal during the heyday of 'Paukenschlag' (July/August 1942).
The first of the convoys was E.1 of 16 July 1942 with the 8,036-ton British City of Edinburgh, 8,142-ton British Dolabella, 7,167-ton British Elmwood, 7,177-ton US John Cropper, 5,453-ton US Mormacmar, 4,801-ton Norwegian Sorholt, 5,244-ton British Trekieve and 5,257-ton British Trevaylor. Six of the ships departed for Cape Town in South Africa, one for the Clyde river in Scotland, and one for Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The last of the convoys was E.8 of 10 August 1942 with the 5,321-ton British City of Glasgow, 8,053-ton British Davila, 5,107-ton US Delmar, 9,059-ton US Esso Providence, 6,998-ton US Floridian, 9,666-ton Norwegian Havkong, 5,179-ton British Hopepeak and 6,461-ton US Robert Luckenbach. Six of the eight ships departed for Cape Town in South Africa, one for Gibraltar and one for Santos in Brazil.
