'Eisbär' (ii) was a German series of three offensives against partisans in the area of Bryansk and Dimitriev in the German-occupied western part of the USSR (January/February 1943).
In this sector the Germans were planning to build up Generaloberst Walter Model’s 9th Army of Generalfeldmarschall Günther von Kluge’s Heeresgruppe 'Mitte' in preparation for the 'Zitadelle' offensive to north and south of Kursk, and the Soviet disruptive attacks played their part in hampering German preparations and also in keeping the Soviet high command informed as to the reinforcements reaching German front-line units in the area.
