'Elephant' (i) was a US tactical deception undertaking by the 23^rd Headquarters Special Troops to conceal from the Germans the movement from reserve of Major General Edward H. Brooks’s 2^nd Armored Division near Cerisy le Forêt in the area of St Lô in north-western France (early July 1944).
