Operation EMM

'EMM' was the designation of Allied military convoys (together with a numerical suffix) carrying motor transport from the UK to France within the context of 'Overlord' (June/July 1944).

There were three such convoys. The first of these, on 30 June/6 July 1944, was EMM.1 from Belfast to the Seine Bay and comprised 16 US 'Liberty' ships each of some 7,176 tons; the second, on 3 July 1944, was EMM.1W from Spithead to the Seine Bay with eight US 'Liberty' ships, each of some 7,176 tons, and six tank landing ships; and the third, on 6/9 July 1944, was EMM.2 from Belfast to the Seine Bay with 12 US 'Liberty' ships, each of some 7,176 tons.
