'Feuerland' was a German undertaking instigated by Martin Bormann, head of the Parteikanzlei (party chancellery) and private secretary to Adolf Hitler, for the export of gold, pearls and other valuables seized from the victims of extermination camps for sale in South American countries (August 1942/1944).
The shipments passed by land through France into Spain, where they were transferred to U-boats (most notably U-530 and U-977) near Cadiz for delivery to South American ports.
