'Garfield' was an Allied radio deception operation to support the attempt of Lieutenant General Mark W. Clark’s US 5^th Army to cross the lower reaches of the Volturno river (mid-October 1943).

The operation sought to suggest that Major General G. W. E. J. Erskine’s British 7^th Armoured Division had been withdrawn from the front to be prepared for an amphibious 'left-hook' round the western end of the German defences in central Italy.
