'Gideon' (ii) was a British naval bombardment of German shipping and installations in Dieppe on the north coast of German-occupied France (25/26 July 1941).
The escort destroyers Cattistock, Mendip and Quorn departed Portsmouth on 25 July, and shelled Dieppe for a short time early in the morning of the following day, but the rest of the operation, which was to have targeted other ports in this area of France, was cancelled as a result of bad weather.
