'Gustav' (ii) was a German and Croat operation against the partisan forces of Josip Broz Tito in the puppet state of Croatia in Axis-occupied Yugoslavia (15/17 March 1943).
The undertaking’s objective was the destruction of undetermined partisan units, with a strength estimated at between 1,000 and 1,500 men) and retake the town of Grbavci some 9.25 miles (15 km) to the south-west of Bosanska Gradiska. The German contribution was elements of Generalleutnant Karl Eglseer’s 714th Division and the Volksdeutschbataillon 'Ludwig von Baden', and that of the Croats the 4/4th Mountain Brigade, elements of the 10th Regiment, and the 4th Ustase Battalion.
Despite the fact that they had only just taken the town, the partisans withdrew from Grbavci before the Axis forces arrived, and no fighting ensued.
