Operation Hochsommer

'Hochsommer' was a German offensive against the French maquis in the département of Isère (August 1944).

This département had been occupied by Italian forces from November 1942 to September 1943, and during this period many maquisards decamped into the surrounding massif areas, especially the Massif de Vercors, which was once of the most important resistance bases, and to a lesser extent the Massif de la Chartreuse between March 1943 and August 1944.
