Operation Hostage (ii)

'Hostage' (ii) was a British pair of diversionary deceptions by Colonel David Strangeways' 'R' Force in support of the operations of Lieutenant General Sir Miles Dempsey’s British 2nd Army in the Normandy campaign (23 June/21 July 1944).

'Hostage I' of 23/25 June was undertaken to aid the 'Epsom' attack toward Caen, and 'Hostage II' to support the 'Goodwood' (i) attempt of 18/21 July to break out of the Allied lodgement’s eastern face.
