'Krokodil Süd' was a German naval minelaying operation intended to block the southern exit of the Moonsund from the Gulf of Riga into the Baltic (4/6 October 1944).
The operation involved the minelayers Brummer (1,596-ton ex-Norwegian Olav Tryggvason captured in 1940) and 3,374-ton ex-mercantile Linz as well as the S-boote of Kapitänleutnant Hermann Holzapfel’s 5th Schnellsboots-Flottille and the minesweepers M 17, M 18 and M 29.
