Operation LGW

'LGW' was the designation of Allied convoys (together with a numerical and sometimes a literal suffix) from Lagos, Nigeria, to the west along the coast of West Africa to Takoradi, Gold Coast, and as such reciprocals of the 'LGE' series (2 September 1943/ 4 December 1944).

The first of this 'Lagos Westbound' series was the LGW.1 convoy of 2/4 September 1943 with the 8,145-ton British Dingledale, 4,706-ton Norwegian Jenny, 6,770-ton British Silverteak and 5,135-ton British Touareg, and the last was the LGW.19 convoy of 3/4 December 1944 with the 14,135-ton British Highland Chieftain and 10,474-ton Dutch Johan de Witt.
