'MBD3' was a British naval sweep along the North African coast of the Cyrenaica region of Libya eastward from Benghazi toward Tobruk by ships of Admiral Sir Andrew Cunningham’s Mediterranean Fleet (11/14 April 1941).
The warships which departed Alexandria on this mission were the light cruiser Orion and the destroyers Griffin, Hasty, Jaguar, Juno and Australian Stuart, which joined the light cruisers Ajax and Australian Perth, and the Australian destroyers Vendetta and Waterhen for this offensive shipping sweep undertaken on two nights.
On the night of 12/13 April Jaguar and Juno swept the area between Ras Tayones and Ras Tolmeita, Griffin and Stuart that between Ras Tolmeita to Ras el Hilal, and Vendetta and Waterhen that between Ras el Hilal and Ras el Tin. The three cruisers and Hasty provided offshore support, but no contacts were gained.
