Operation MD8 (i)

'MD8' (i) was a British naval operation by ships of Admiral Sir Andrew Cunningham’s Mediterranean Fleet to undertake a gunfire bombardment of an Italian airfield near Derna in Libya (13/14 May 1941).

The light cruisers Ajax, Orion and Australian Perth, and the destroyers Juno, Kandahar and Kingston departed Alexandria to perform a nocturnal shelling of the airfield at El Fateyah, but the attack was aborted as the position of the airfield could not be accurately determined.
