'Metz' was a US two-part deception by the 23rd Headquarters Special Troops in connection with the battle for Metz in eastern France (28 December 1944/9 January 1945).
'Metz I' of 28/31 December 1944 was designed to show that Major General Frank L. Culin’s US 87th Division was still committed in the Metz area even though it was being redeployed toward the Ardennes for service against 'Wacht am Rhein'.
'Metz II' of 6/9 January 1945 was intended to show that Major General James A. Van Fleet’s US 90th Division was still in reserve behind the Metz front even though it too was being relocated northward to the Ardennes.
