'Nutmeg' was an Allied air operation by Lieutenant General Ira C. Eaker’s Mediterranean Allied Air Forces to bomb and destroy Axis coastal gun batteries between Genoa in north-western Italy and Sète in southern France before the launch of 'Dragoon' (i) (August 1944).
The wide lateral spread of the targets was designed to prevent the Germans from deducing the precise area against which 'Dragoon' (i) would be launched.
