Operation Odysseus

(legendary Greek hero of the Trojan War and king of Ithaca)

'Odysseus' was the German movement of the newly completed ex-Italian torpedo boats TA 37, TA 38 and TA 39 from Trieste at the head of the Adriatic Sea via the Strait of Otranto (where the boats fought a short and inconclusive action with the British escort destroyers Belvoir and Whaddon), the Gulf of Patras and the Corinth Canal to bases in the Aegean Sea for service with Fregattenkapitän Hans Dominik’s 9th Torpedoboots-Flottille (20/24 September 1944).
