The 'Orel Strategic Offensive Operation' was the Soviet offensive, more generally known as 'Kutuzov' and incorporating the 'Volkhov-Orel Offensive Operation' (12 July/18 August) and 'Kromyv-Orel Offensive Operation' (15 July/18 August) as its its two primary components, to eliminate the German salient centred on Orel after the Soviet success of the 'Kursk Strategic Offensive Operation' and entailed German failure of 'Zitadelle' (12 July/18 August 1943).
