'Ravine' was a British special forces operation by the Special Air Service to sabotage the French railway system in the Dordogne region of German-occupied France, and so make it unusable by the Germans to move men, weapons and supplies to the north through the area toward the Allied 'Overlord' lodgement in Normandy (8 June 1944).
