'Rope' was a British naval gunfire bombardment of a port area in the Dante region of Italian Somaliland by the heavy cruiser Dorsetshire (18 November 1940).
The ship had departed Aden on the previous day to make the passage into the Atlantic Ocean via Durban in South Africa, and was temporarily diverted for 'Rope', in which the ship fired 200 8-in (203-mm) rounds and launched torpedoes to destroy the wharves used by Italian ships.
