'Rote-Linie' was a German extemporised defence line in Normandy between Coutances and Savigny for SS-Oberstgruppenführer und Generaloberst der Waffen-SS Paul Hausser’s 7th Army (July 1944).
The line was occupied on 28 July by Generalleutnant Otto Elfeldt’s LXXXIV Corps in an effort to check the advance of the 'Cobra' offensive of Lieutenant General Omar N. Bradley’s US 1st Army even as the German 'Lüttich' counter-offensive was being planned.
