'Salvage' was a British naval operation to intercept and capture or sink German blockade-running ships (15 June 1941).
The 10,746-ton tanker Lothringen surrendered after being intercepted by the light cruiser Dunedin and aircraft of the fleet carrier Eagle of Force 'F' in the South Atlantic, and was then renamed Empire Salvage for British service. Dunedin remained in the South Atlantic, and captured two more ships in the form of the 4,993-ton Vichy French freighter Ville de Tamatave in the area to the to the east of St Paul’s Rock on 30 June, and the 5,598-ton Vichy French freighter Ville de Rouen in the area to the to the east of Natal, Brazil, on 22 July.
