'Sava' was a German operation, launched immediately after the end of 'Wegweiser', to clear the partisan forces of Marshal Josip Broz Tito from the Semberija region of German-occupied Yugoslavia (15/17 March 1944).
In this undertaking the 27th SS Gebirgsjägerregiment of SS-Brigadeführer und Generalmajor der Waffen-SS Karl-Gustav Sauberzweig’s 13th SS Gebirgsdivision 'Handschar' (kroatische Nr 1) crossed the Sava river at Srijemska Raca and captured Bijeljina.
