Operation Sesame (i)

'Sesame' (i) was the British overall study for a major raid across the English Channel to divert German military resources from the Eastern Front (spring 1942).

Operations within this overall scheme, intended as a means of easing the German pressure on the hard-pressed Soviet forces on the Eastern Front, were 'Imperator', 'Ransack', 'Foretop', 'Round-up', 'Sledgehammer' and 'Jupiter' (i).
