'Siegfried' (iii) was the German unrealised baseline plan for the occupation, within 'Achse' (ii), of those portions of southern France held by Generale d’Armata Mario Vercellino’s Italian 4th Army (8 September 1942 onward).
The scheme was later developed into 'Attila' (implemented in November 1942), although the Italian sector in France was taken over by the troops of Generalfeldmarschall Gerd von Rundstedt’s Oberbefehlshaber 'West' command in France only after the Italian armistice of September 1943, the whole undertaking being completed within 12 hours of the executive order.
