'Silberstreif' (ii) was the German overall designation for its localised propaganda operation against the USSR using air-dropped leaflets in an attempt to persuade Soviet troops to desert and surrender themselves to Generalfeldmarschall Günther von Kluge’s Heeresgruppe 'Mitte' (6 May 1943 onward).
A programme which achieved little success, 'Silberstreif' (ii) was organised by Heinz-Danko Herre, the deputy of Oberst Reinhard Gehlen of the Fremde Heere Ost, the German army’s intelligence apparatus concerned with the Soviet ground forces.
