Operation Skorpion-West (i)

scorpion-west

'Skorpion-West' (i) was a German propaganda campaign, instigated at the behest of Generalfeldmarschall Walter Model, the Oberbefehlshaber 'West', by the SS on the Rhine river front after the Allied forces had reached and crossed the German frontier (autumn 1944).

A propaganda campaign intended to bolster the morale of the German forces fighting on the Western Front after their defeat in the Normandy campaign following 'Overlord', 'Skorpion-West' (i) was based on the use a series of leaflets to reassess the German operational mistakes of the summer and to encourage troops with morale-boosting descriptions of secret weapons, additional manpower and Germany’s commitment to the waging of total war.
