Operation Stevedore

'Stevedore' was the US element within the 'Forager' campaign against the Japanese forces in the Marianas islands group to land on and take the island of Guam.

In the assault phase of the operation, the US III Amphibious Corps landed troops of the US Army and US Marine Corps on the western side of the island, which was held by Lieutenant General Tadeshi Takashina’s 29th Division and also accommodated Lieutenant General Hideyoshi Obata, commander of the 31st Army responsible for the defence of the entire island group..
