'Sturgeon' was the US cover plan for the redeployment of Major General Curtis E. LeMay’s US 20AAF from China to the Mariana islands group for the strategic air offensive against the Japanese home islands (January/June 1945).
The 'story' promulgated by the plan was that this air force’s Boeing B-29 Superfortress heavy bombers were being relocated to China to India, and thence probably to the Philippine islands group, to benefit from improved logistical support and be better sited to attack targets in southern China and South-East Asia.
