'Ta' (iv) was the Japanese plan to reinforce their forces in the Philippine islands group as the US forces began their descents on the islands (October 1944).
Undertaken in the 'Ta 1' to 'Ta 9' sub-operations, the reinforcements came mainly from Lieutenant General Shin Yoshida’s Kwantung Army in Manchukuo, the Japanese puppet state in Manchuria, and comprised Lieutenant General Yoshiharu Iwanaka’s 2nd Armoured Division, Lieutenant General Shizuo Yokoyama’s 8th Division and Lieutenant General Fukutaro Hishiyama’s 23rd Division.
